Capping protects nothing other than a plasterers trowel. Doesn't protect cables from being drilled through, doesn't prevent a nail being hammered through it hanging a picture. If its a wet plastered wall..Use it to protect a plasterers trowel. Most walls are now dot & dabbed..Circuits installed correct with RCD protection are protected . The end. What a wally

You are good at what you do. Keep doing it. But if you are going to try and educate you do need to get things right. There are lots of points I would like to make and I’m only half way through the video. Here are a few. 1, if you are testing a RCD and it trips on 0.5 x then this is nothing to do with the leakage on the circuit. It is the RCD that is faulty. 2, you keep referencing selectivity, I think you mean division of installation 314. 3, The regs are to be applied to all installation and yet you keep referencing a little old lady who cannot manage a flight of stairs. This could quite easily be a very fit and young person who in the event of a power failure could be put at risk. Please don’t keep going on about an old lady. People that come along and start replacing switches with RCDs should ensure they met the design criteria within the regs. If they don’t know what or how to do this then they shouldn’t be changing anything. Just by simply saying use RCBOs does not alter the fact that they have no idea on design.

it's not a "hot" topic at all, rings should be banned worldwide and all homes with it should be condemned and not allowed to use electricity. When a fault occurs (inevitably, sooner or later) the only way to find out is when your cable is already overheating and on fire. And breakers for 1.5mm2 should be 10, 2.5mm2 should be 16. Type B not C. You put in a 32 breaker and it's never gonna trip. 20 amp especially on an old home is risky. Remember, new install 2.5 isn't the same as an old 2.5mm2

Your second illustration is not a radial it is half of a ring. This is worse than either a ring or a radial. Also a radial only has 1 earth wire whereas a ring has 2 therefore twice the protection. It's a fundamental test in IEEE regs to check earth or CPC continuity so where is the logic in getting rid of that. It's to train sparkies easier. Radial circuit, earth or no earth. Ring main , is earth continuous if not find the fault. It's dumbing down sparkies and selling more cables and bigger FB/CU.

Congradulations for the great video. I built a house in Mexico about 4 years ago and this definitely would’ve helped. I still plan on getting one cause I know I will come in handy in Mexicos brick homes. Maybe not that expensive one although of all the ones I've seen out there, Metabo looks like the better of them all. All the others look cheaply made. Thanks.

Hey Tom, just want to pick you up on the 'column door should always be against the flow of traffic'. You are of course correct that this has long been a recommendation (although not a regulation), however, most councils in London are moving away from this and requesting the column door be on the highway side to facilitate future EV charging conversions.
